CLEAN SHEETS

GET THE FACTS OF WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING "BETWEEN THE SHEETS"

By LaShawn Richards | August 27, 2017

What's the one thing that you spend all day thinking about even after you've spent your entire night enjoying its goodness? The one thing that brings you to the moon and back, that has become the perfect pick me up that never fails to make you feel warm inside and out. What’s your little slice of heaven after a stressing day?

It’s your bed right??? Well at least I hope that's what you were thinking.

A warm sheet on a cold night or silky bed linens draped over your body never fails to seduce anyone. But have you ever stopped to check the status of the sheets you've been getting into bed with? Because word has it, all sheets have an expiration date.

That brings us to the topic of how often you should wash your sheets.

Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it on their beds nine weeks old??? Whatever your preference you should know the risks associated with using sheets over a long period of time. Truth be told, if you're not careful you just might catch something.

Research Gate (2006) tells us that our sheets and pillowcases can become a breeding ground for fungus. Fungus enjoys dirty and warm environments and can be formed from the dead skin, saliva, sweat, urine, mucus and even faeces that can be found in our sheets. And if that's not disgusting enough these fungi can cause, breakouts, allergic reactions, and even infections if you have an open cut. Another 'fun fact' is that most times your eyes won't be able to detect the dirt or fungus building up in your sheets.

So unless you don’t mind cozying up with your dead skin cells from last week, the recommended wash time for your bed sheet is once a week, and maybe, just maybe, two weeks if you absolutely MUST.
